Georgia came from Oxford

From Oxford to Hauge on Bremangerlandet. Georgia found a slower rhythm, an open coast, and a community that made room for her.

The tip came a long way round. Georgia’s mother is friends with the mother of one of the people who run Havlys, and the two friends live in southern France — that is how Georgia first heard about the vacant job at Igland. She was in Scotland at the time. She said yes, planned to stay a year, and then met Kristian. Now they are going to have a baby.

A tip that travelled through southern France

Georgia trained as a teacher and has travelled around a fair bit. When the question of Bremanger came up she was in Scotland, and there she was offered a year working at Havlys. She said yes. The plan was to stay one year, but then she met Kristian, and now they are going to have a baby.

We meet her and her husband, Kristian Hauge, at home in Grotlevegen. People in Bremangerbygda probably know Kristian from the shop at Hauge nearby. For Georgia, the meeting with Bremanger is relatively recent. She grew up in the English city of Oxford — the old university city known in recent times from, among other things, the Harry Potter films.

A house his grandfather built

Kristian grew up in Enebakk south of Oslo, but his mother is from Bremanger, and it was his grandfather who once built the house at Hauge.

Georgia would like a permanent visa, because she plans to stay in Bremanger. But after Brexit, when the UK left the EU, this has become more complicated for friends on the British Isles who want to move across the North Sea.

Bremanger reminds me of the Scottish Highlands, with mountains, lakes, deer and the flowering spring. It is wonderfully beautiful here.

So peaceful here

She says she feels at home in Bremangerbygda because it is so peaceful here.

She adds that the weather is also the same as in Scotland.
