Vilde and Leif Erik restored an old house
They took on an old house and brought it back to life — proof that a coastal home can be both heritage and a fresh start.
The stately old house lies in Førs, a valley at the end of Førspollen. Leif Erik grew up in these parts, and Vilde brought him home after some years in Bergen. Vilde comes from Garnes in Arna. Together they agreed to move to Bremanger — and the old house at Bergane became both a home and a long renovation project.
Home to Førs, and a job at the town hall
«We agreed to move to Bremanger and Vilde got the job in the municipality. We are glad of that,» Leif Erik says. As a biologist, Vilde got a job at the town hall in Svelgen, where she works at the agriculture office.
«When I studied I wrote my thesis on deer, so that fits well in Bremanger, even though I don’t use that specific competence in my daily work at the town hall,» she says. Bremanger is one of the largest deer municipalities in the country, according to Vilde.
A hunting licence and a mountain summer farm
«Yes, both I and Leif Erik do it,» Vilde says of the hunting. «When we bought this house we also got a hunting licence here, and we got a mountain summer farm thrown in,» she smiles.
As a building inspector for Statnett, Leif Erik travels all over Western Norway, but his base is always Bremanger. «I enjoy the job, and I am also active in politics at the municipal level and for the county party,» he says.

A smallholding, and a project that takes its time
After taking over the house at Bergane, the couple have also taken on responsibility for an 18-decare smallholding.
But most of all it is a big renovation project that takes its time. The old house at the end of Førspollen is being brought back to life room by room.
